KLC International Institute’s faculty has over the years acquired much experience in inclusive learning in Chinese language for preschool children. It has been able to occasionally share its knowledge on best practices with others in the early childhood sector.

On 9 September, Mr James Ling, KLCII’s Head Chinese Language Learning, was invited as one of the speakers at the Early Childhood Intervention Conference 2022 organised by Good Start SG.  Good Start is an advocacy group made up of early childhood and early intervention professionals advancing evidence-based inclusive best practices in Singapore.

Mr Ling spoke on “The learning of Chinese language in an inclusive educational environment” in one of the break-out sessions. He touched on the concept of integrated education and how a conducive Chinese education environment could be developed in preschools. In the session he also shared about the role of Chinese language teachers in the inclusive classroom to address children’s different learning needs.

The conference was co-organised by Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), Centre for Applied Practice in Education (CAPE), Institute of Special Programmes and Continual Equipping (iSPACE) and Presbyterian Preschool Services (PPS)

Its main target audience included early years practitioners such as preschool teachers, early interventionists, educational support teachers and related professionals.

The Guest of Honour was Mr Laurence Lien, Chairman and Governor of Lien Foundation, and Chairman of Asia Philanthropy Circle.

Assoc Professor Kenneth Poon, Nanyang Technological University, and Co-Director of the Centre for Research in Child Development, was the keynote speaker. He spoke on “Forging Inclusion in Our Preschools”.
