Renowned education expert Professor Curtis J. Bonk from Indiana University’s School of Education was in Singapore recently. With an impressive career including over 400 publications, 20 books on technology and learning, and countless presentations worldwide, Professor Bonk is a thought leader in the field.
KLCII was honoured to welcome Professor Bonk at our AMK campus where he shared insights on integrating technology and AI into teaching, with a focus on challenges and opportunities in K-12 and early childhood education.
Key Highlights includes:
- Asynchronous vs. Synchronous Learning: Professor Bonk emphasized balancing these approaches to create seamless learning experiences.
- Innovative Design for Younger Learners: He highlighted the need for creative, adaptive strategies, using interactive, reflective, and hands-on methods to keep young learners motivated and actively engaged.
- Engagement Through Technology: He stressed the importance of interactive, collaborative, and diverse methods to motivate students and deepen learning.
AI in Education
While recognising the transformative potential of AI tools, Professor Bonk recommended using AI strategically, such as presenting flawed outputs as a springboard for critique and reflective discussions, thereby encouraging critical thinking and enriching the learning process.
Collaboration and Innovation
Professor Bonk highlighted teacher development initiatives at Indiana University and North Carolina and recommended digital resources such as Silver Lining for Learning. He urged educators to embrace experimentation, quoting Orson Welles: “I have always been more interested in experimenting instead of the outcome.”
This engaging session offered valuable insights from leveraging AI for education transformation to living life more curiously and courageously.
