The 12th series of the Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi (PSC) Test administered by KLCII has broken the record again with 157 participants taking the oral-only assessment of their spoken proficiency. Conducted at KLCII’s campus in Serangoon, the cohort surpassed the 141 students registered for the 27-29 June 2019 test.

“We noted that there are more applications from Chinese pre-school teachers and students from other institutions. The increasing participation in the test seems to reflect the keen interest of preschool Chinese language teachers to assure themselves that their spoken Mandarin has achieved a recognised standard.” KLCII Principal, Mr Chua Ying Hwee said.
Ms Chen Yu Feng, who is taking the WSQ PDECCE course with KLCII, says’ “It has helped me to improve my Chinese speaking proficiency. With better pronunciation and greater confidence, I am able to better express the emotions when reading stories aloud”.
Another WSQ PDECCE student, Ms Tan Yuh Suat, says the experience has helped her to be more assured of her Chinese speaking proficiency.

PSC, developed by China’s Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Institute of Applied Linguistics, classifies “Putonghua” as Chinese language with standard pronunciation and it is currently used all over the world.
