KLC International Institute (KLCII), in collaboration with Lifelong Learning SG (LLSG), welcomed 66 participants to the SCTP Preview @ Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) on 23 April 2026. The event brought together aspiring educators, mid-career individuals, industry partners, and adult learners to explore career opportunities and training pathways within Singapore’s Early Childhood Education sector.
Organised as part of the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP), the event aimed to support individuals seeking meaningful career transitions into the preschool sector through industry-relevant training, professional development, and employer engagement opportunities.
As Singapore continues to strengthen its Early Childhood workforce, the event highlighted how SkillsFuture-supported pathways can help adult learners reskill and prepare for sustainable careers in Early Childhood Education.
Exploring SkillsFuture Pathways into Early Childhood Education
The SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) supports mid-career Singaporeans seeking to reskill and transition into new industries through subsidised, employment-focused training pathways. Within the Early Childhood sector, SCTP programmes help aspiring educators gain practical skills, industry exposure, and professional competencies required for preschool environments.
Participants at the event attended a SkillsFuture Advice sharing session, a KLCII academic workshop, and a dedicated SCTP consultation segment where they learned more about:
- Early Childhood Education career pathways,
- SkillsFuture funding support,
- practicum opportunities,
- industry expectations and
- employment prospects within Singapore’s preschool sector.
This SCTP Preview event also provided attendees with opportunities to interact directly with preschool operators and industry representatives during the networking and interview segment held after the panel discussion.
Addressing Common Misconceptions About Mid-Career Switches
One of the key highlights of the event was the panel discussion titled “Mid-Career Switch to Early Childhood: Myths, Realities & Career Pathways”. Moderated by KLCII’s Ms Masliah Binte Abdul Rahman, the session featured representatives from KLCII, preschool operators including E-Bridge Pre-School, Skool4Kidz Preschool and Star Learners Child Care, as well as an adult learner currently pursuing training in Early Childhood Education.
The panel addressed several common misconceptions about joining the Early Childhood sector, including concerns that:
- the profession is only suitable for younger individuals,
- adult learners may struggle academically after years away from study,
- or that preschool education mainly involves caregiving and babysitting.
Panelists shared that the Early Childhood profession today requires a broad range of professional competencies, including:
- curriculum planning,
- classroom management,
- communication skills,
- child development knowledge and
- partnership-building with families.
Industry representatives also highlighted that mature learners and mid-career entrants often bring valuable strengths into the classroom, including resilience, empathy, interpersonal communication skills, and real-world experience.
Supporting Adult Learners Through Industry-Relevant Training
The discussion also explored how KLCII’s training approach supports adult learners through practical learning experiences, structured academic guidance, and workplace-relevant preparation aligned with the evolving needs of Singapore’s preschool sector.
Participants gained insights into how SCTP-funded Early Childhood Education programmes are designed to help learners progressively build confidence while adapting to academic and professional expectations. The panel also highlighted the importance of practicum experiences and industry exposure in helping trainees apply classroom learning within real preschool settings.
The sharing by the adult learner panelist provided attendees with authentic perspectives on navigating a mid-career transition, overcoming academic concerns, and adapting to a new professional pathway in education.
Strengthening Industry Collaboration and Workforce Development
The event reflected continued interest among Singaporeans seeking meaningful and purpose-driven careers within the Early Childhood sector.
During the interview and consultation segment, participants engaged directly with preschool operators to better understand workplace expectations, career opportunities, and the qualities employers look for in aspiring educators.
The collaboration between KLCII, Lifelong Learning SG (LLSG), preschool operators, and SkillsFuture initiatives demonstrates the importance of strong industry partnerships in developing a future-ready Early Childhood workforce in Singapore.
As a long-standing provider of Early Childhood Education training, KLCII remains committed to equipping aspiring educators with industry-relevant skills, professional knowledge, and practical competencies that support long-term career development in the preschool sector.
Through initiatives such as SCTP Preview @ LLI, KLCII and LLSG continue to support lifelong learning and empower individuals to pursue rewarding careers that contribute meaningfully to the development of young children and the future of Singapore’s education landscape.
