With the thriving Early childhood industry, qualified and talented teachers are key to its success. This course is designed to prepare you with the relevant knowledge to work with children from 18 months to 4 years old. You will be equipped with good understanding of child development knowledge, use of play to create appropriate activities and setting of stimulating environment, management of children’s behaviour, and communication skills with parents and others.

Upon completion of the course, graduates will be able to:

  • Transfer education philosophies and child development theories into practices which provide wide-ranging, multimedia and developmentally appropriate experiences for young children
  • Be skilful in their role of observation and application of knowledge of child development
  • Gain knowledge on a variety of approaches and strategies which facilitate a creative and developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children
  • Develop interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with fellow colleagues, parents and other professionals in the community
  • Design, implement and evaluate activities and learning environments that are appropriate to young children’s developmental needs and learning

Assessment

A range of individual and group projects, quizzes, presentations, role-plays and practicum.

Note: Some projects will include practical tasks such as observation of children and implementing activities in Early Childhood classroom settings.

Award of Certificate

Upon successful completion of coursework and practicum, and a minimum of 80% attendance, trainees will be awarded the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education.

For Full Qualification:

  • Attained 3 GCE ‘O’ level credits or completed 10 years of formal education and passed state exam with credits in 3 different subjects
  • A grade C6 in GCE ‘O’ level English Language or any of the English language acceptable alternative by ECDA

For Alternate Entry:

  • Certified EY2*
  • At least 1-year relevant work experience from date of teacher certification (Certified EY2) attainment
  • No language requirement needed
  • Strong Recommendation Letter from current centre (with at least 6 months of employment)
  • Pass a written test and interview administered by KLCII

* EY2 teachers are required to submit a copy to their Letter of Notification (LON) issued by ECDA.

Students enrolling into the WSQ ACECCE programme under the “Alternate Entry” route must complete and pass the first 2 pre-requisite modules before proceeding to complete the remainder of the programme.
