Assessment is important to provide educators and families with critical information about a child’s development and growth. It can provide a record of growth in all developmental areas: cognitive, physical/motor, language, social-emotional, and approaches to learning.
Assessment helps educators to create special lessons that match each child’s style which makes learning more enjoyable. It helps to understand where children are on their learning journey and enables educators and parents to provide the right support. In addition, assessment can be used to screen for any developmental delays and acquire further professional intervention.
In this workshop, educators will understand the role of assessment in creating a holistic picture of children’s experiences, development and learning and in planning meaningful experiences for each child. They will have opportunities to work on sets of data and consolidate and analyse a child’s developmental needs. They will learn how to make adaptions to the learning environment and learning experiences based on information gathered about children’s development through observation and documentation. Lastly, participants will learn how to communicate the assessed data to families.
