The WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Years course is designed to prepare Early Years Educators in the care, guidance and education of infants and toddlers from 2 months to 36 months old.

The course aims to enable students to:

  • Gain understanding of the C.H.I.L.D Principles, areas of development and developmental goals of the Early Years Development Framework
  • Develop understanding of the needs and development phases of infants and toddlers (2 to 36 months old)
  • Acquire knowledge and skills in setting up appropriate learning environments, and planning programme for infants and toddlers in centre-based settings
  • Attain knowledge of the importance of health, safety, first-aid and nutrition
  • Develop understanding of the important roles and responsibilities in the care and development of infants and toddlers
  • Acquire skills to engage in reflective practices

This course consist of:

Class Hours: 400 Hours
Practicum^: 200 Hours
Total Hours: 600 Hours

Full-Time Course: 10 Months
Part-Time Course: 16 Months / 10 Months (Fast-track)

^Conducted in-person at an ECDA-licensed childcare centre

Assessment

A range of individual and group projects, quizzes, presentations, role-plays and practicum.

Note: Some projects will include practical tasks such as observation of children and implementing activities with young children.

Award of Certificate

Upon successful completion of coursework and practicum, and a minimum of 80 % attendance, trainees will be awarded the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Years.

Alternate Entry Requirements

  • No additional language requirement
  • Relief staff program (RSP)/ Fundamental Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education (FECCE)/ WSQ Higher Certificate in Infant Care (WSQ HCIC)/ Certificate in Infant and Toddler Care and Development (CITC)/ Certified Early Year 1 (EY1).
  • 1 year of relevant working experience from attainment of certification.
  • Strong Recommendation Letter from current centre (with at least 6 months of employment)
  • Pass interview and written test

Students enrolling into this programme under “Alternate Entry” route must complete and pass the first 2 pre-requisite modules before proceeding to complete the remainder of the programme.

Career Conversion Programme (CCP) for Preschool Educators (Optional)

The Career Conversion Programme (CCP) for Preschool Educators is jointly offered by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA), SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and Workforce Singapore (WSG). It is designed to equip mid-career switchers who aspire to become Preschool Educators with the necessary qualifications and skills. The CCP operates in a full-time work and study mode under which the participating preschool operators will employ eligible trainees before commencement of the full-time course. Successfully employed trainees under the CCP will receive monthly salary and course sponsorship from employer. Additionally, they will also be required to commit to a bond agreement with their employer.

Eligibility criteria for CCP applicants who:

  • Singapore Citizen (SC) or Permanent Resident (PR) aged 21 years and above
  • Graduated or completed National Service, whichever is later, at least two years prior at the point of application;
  • Have fulfilled the minimum course entry requirements;
  • New hires must not have attended the same early childhood programme and received funding previously;
  • New hires should be hired for not more than six months;
  • New hires must not be in the same job role prior to joining the CCP;
  • New hires must not be a shareholder of the CCP company, or its related companies;
  • New hires must not be related to the owner(s) of the CCP company; and
  • New hires must not be immediate ex-staff of CCP company or its related companies.
  • New hires must not be under SSG suspended / withholding listing for funding.
