The degree course examines a range of areas and disciplines which focus on the education, development and welfare of the young child. It builds upon student’s knowledge achieved through observation and practical experience and provides a comprehensive understanding of those theoretical issues which inform practice.

  • Deepen and extend students’ knowledge and understanding of child development
  • Provide students with a knowledge of the fundamental theories which underpin early childhood policies and initiatives
  • Develop students’ awareness of the importance of roles played by different professionals in the childcare field
  • Enable students’ to gain knowledge and understanding of the different professionals in the childcare field
  • Provide opportunities for students to critically appraise their experiences of early years settings, locating them in a socio-cultural context

Students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a depth of understanding of the patterns of young children’s development of the influence of socio-cultural contextual and economic factors
  • Discuss with informed understanding of global perspectives on key policies, issues and debates relating to early childhood
  • Examine critically the work of researchers in the area of early childhood
  • Independently design, plan and execute individual research projects in an appropriate educare setting

  • This is a 22-month part-time degree programme fully taught by the University’s faculty with face-to-face classroom teaching in Singapore.
  • There are 3 terms in a year, each made up of a 3-month study period covering one or two modules
  • Each module covers 25 hours intensive block of teaching per term during weekday evenings and full day on Saturday
  • A combination of lecturers, seminar and workshop will be fully taught by the Warwick faculty
  • Pre-course study guide and reading materials will be distributed to students prior to commencement of each module for their preparation of 5-hour work-based directed tasks.

Assessment

A combination of assignments, practical assessments and examination across all modules for honors degree classification.

Award of Certificate

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded the prestigious Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Early Childhood Care and Education (Top-Up) by The University of Warwick, UK.

This degree will be the same as that granted to on-campus students of the University. Graduates will be allowed to use the title BA (Hons) after their names.

Route A – 3 Months (Bridging)

  • WSQ Specialist Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (WSQ SDECCE)/ Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education – Leadership

AND

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education awarded by The University of Warwick, UK

Route B – 9 month + 3 month (Bridging) 

  • WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (WSQ PDECCE)/ Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education – Teaching

AND

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education awarded by The University of Warwick, UK

Other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Total Fees payable $26,429.00

All fees stated are inclusive of prevailing GST and are in Singapore dollars. Students are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of $85.60 upon course sign-up.

Course fee will be made payable by installments to be advised prior to commencement of Degree course.

Course fees are inclusive of course handbooks and study materials issued by the University. The costs of recommended textbooks will be borne by students.

Insurance fee of approx $350 will be paid by students.

Note: The course is not accredited by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA). Graduates who wish to work in the local early childhood sector will need to submit an application to ECDA for Teacher Registration via a preschool. Approval by ECDA will be subjected to the applicant meeting the requirements for Teacher Registration.
