KLC International Institute (KLCII) further extended its effort to offer preschool teacher training services in the region with the launch of its first two workshops for the Kinderland preschool network in Jakarta, Indonesia, in February 2018. The Institute had previously conducted many training sessions in China.

The workshops were done in collaboration with Multimatics (a company under PT Lifelong Learning), an established consulting, training, and certification institution in Indonesia with more than 10 years of experience in delivering quality professional training to corporate clients.

The first workshop entitled “Empowering Preschool Educators with Effective Communication Skills”, designed to equip the teachers with proper written communication, verbal and nonverbal communication capabilities, was held on 9 February.

The second workshop on “Discipline and Behaviour Guidance for Preschoolers” was held the next day. It was  specially packaged to equip the teachers with a better understanding of the variety of reasons for children’s behaviours and proactive strategies. It especially help them to address and guide children towards proper and acceptable behaviours while preserving their dignity and self-esteem.

These two workshops were conceptualised and organised in consultation with Mrs Seemum Suparno, Operation Advisor, P.T. Kinderland Pendidikan Raya. Today, there are six Kinderland kindergarten centres and two internationally- accredited primary and secondary schools in Jakarta.

More than 100 teachers from the Kinderland centres in Jakarta attended the workshops. Every teacher who attended was presented with a Certificate of Achievement for their participation.

The workshops were conducted in English by KLCII full-time lecturer Mdm Radiah A Razak. Mdm Radiah holds a Master’s degree in EC Education from Monash University, Australia, and have more than 30 years of experience in early childhood education services, including preschool teacher training.

Feedback from the participants were very positive.

“This course gives me the knowledge to improve my communications skill as a preschool teacher.” said Ms Amelia Alatas

Another teacher, Ms Jorima Orperia Del Rosario said: “The workshops were very informative. I like the way the speaker presented the topics and relating them to real life situation.”

Mrs Suprano is planning to organise more professional development workshops for the early childhood sector in Jakarta in partnership with KLCII and Multimatics to help prepare teachers in the nation’s capital keep up to date with the latest best practices in preschool pedagogy.
