A group of 15 English tuition teachers from Hansol Education Co Ltd of South Korea attended a specially-designed refresher programme on “Creating Language Experiences for Young Children” at KLCII on 18 and 19 January 2016. Hailed from six different cities, the teachers with experience ranging from four to 16 years provide home tuition on English language to Korean students from preschool to high school.

Singapore was selected for Hansol’s offshore programme because the Republic is well known for its bilingual education and its ‘safe environment’. KLCII was chosen by Hansol for its pioneering experience in private sector early childhood teacher training and English language courses for working adults.

The all-ladies group found the programme very “refreshing”.

Ms Lim Jinhee, who has worked with Hansol for 15 years, said the delivery of lessons in Singapore is very different with a lot of emphasis on stimulated learning instead of “cramming”, which is the norm in Korea. The group also found the emphasis on language play for children very interesting.

Ms Cho Minoung, who has 15 years of experience in the education sector, said tutors are expected to help their students score As for their English in school.
