The WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Years course is designed to prepare early years educarers in the care, guidance and education of infants and toddlers (2 months – 36 months old).

The course aims to enable students to:

  •  Gain understanding of the guiding principles, outcomes and suboutcomes of the Early Years Development Framework
  • Develop understanding of the needs and development phases of infants and toddlers (2 to 36 months old)
  • Acquire knowledge and skills in setting up appropriate learning environments, and planning programme for infants and toddlers in center-based settings
  • Attain knowledge of the importance of health, safety, first-aid and nutrition
  • Develop understanding of the important roles and responsibilities in the care and development of infants and toddlers
  • Acquire skills to engage in reflective practices

Applicants should have:

Local Singapore Qualifications

  • Completed at least Secondary Four education*; AND
  • At least an average SOA 5 in the WPL series, including an SOA 5 for WPL – Writing.

Non-Local Singapore Qualifications

  • Completed at least 10 years of formal education*; AND
  • At least an average SOA 5 in the WPL series, including an SOA 5 for WPL – Writing.

*Official documents from institution are required to show completion of 10 years of education.

OR

Alternate Entry

  • At least 1 year of relevant working experience related to the course; AND
  • Completed the Relief Staff Programme (RSP)/Fundamentals Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education (FECCE)/WSQ Higher Certificate in Infant Care (WSQ HCIC)/Certificate in Infant Toddler Care and Development (CITC) /Certified EY1+ /Allied Infant Educarer (AIE) Programme
  • Holds a strong recommendation letter from the trainee’s centre
  • Pass a written test and interview administered by KLCII
    +EY1 teachers are required to submit a copy of their Letter of Notification (LON) issued by ECDA.

Students enrolling to the WSQ ACEY programme under the “Alternate Entry” route MUST COMPLETE AND PASS 2 pre-requisite modules before proceeding on to complete the remainder of the programme.

The pre-requisite modules are:

  1. Module 3 – Identify How Children (Birth to Age 3) Learn and Develop
  2. Module 4 – Assist in Observation and Documentation of Children’s Learning

Assessment

A range of individual and group projects, quizzes, presentations, role-plays and practicum.

Note: Some projects will include practical tasks such as observation of children and implementing activities in Early Childhood classroom settings.

Award of Certificate

Upon successful completion of coursework and practicum, and a minimum of 80 % attendance, trainees will be awarded the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Early Years.

SkillsFuture Credit (For Self-fund applicants only)

Singaporeans aged 25 years and above can use their SkillsFuture Credit to defray course nett fees. To find out your SkillsFuture Credit balance, please login to www.myskillsfuture.gov.sg/credit using your Singpass.

Place-and-Train (PnT) for Educarers (Optional)

The Place-and-Train (PnT) for Educarers is jointly offered by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA), SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and Workforce Singapore (WSG). It is designed to equip mid-career individuals who aspire to become Educarers with the necessary qualifications and skills. The PnT operates in the mode under which the participating preschool operators will employ eligible trainees before the commencement of the WSQ certificate full-time course. Successful trainees under this PnT will receive monthly salary and course sponsorship from employer and undertake commitment to signing of bond.

Eligibility criteria for PnT applicants who:
• Singapore Citizen (SC) or Permanent Resident (PR) aged 21 years and above
• Graduated or completed National Service, whichever is later, at least two years prior at the point of application;
• Have fulfilled the minimum course entry requirements;
• New hires should be hired for not more than six months;
• New hires must not be in the same job role prior to joining the PnT;
• New hires must not be a shareholder of the PnT company, or its related companies;
• New hires must not be related to the owner(s) of the PnT company; and
• New hires must not be immediate ex-staff of PnT company or its related companies.
